Product Of The Week - STIHL HS 45 Hedgetrimmer
The STIHL HS 45 Hedgetrimmer
What is the STIHL HS 45?
The STIHL HS 45 is our best selling petrol hedgetrimmer here in the ISE showroom. Some key features which sway the consumer towards purchasing this particular hedgetrimmer include the machine’s lightweight, excellent anti-vibration properties, robust gearbox, double sided blades and entry level price. This hedgetrimmer can be purchased from our website and our showroom from €359. This machine is unique in the fact that it is recommended for homeowner use which is reflected in the price point, however, do not underestimate this piece of equipment. It is extremely durable and can tackle the tougher, heavy duty tasks as well as general garden maintenance.
The 24”, double sided blades are precise enough to trim hard to reach areas of hedges, shrubs and bushes and strong enough to withstand the deeper wood at the centre of a plant or hedge. There are multiple options for the blade size and type for the HS 45 including a 24” or 18” blade which provide a complete clear trim. It has been tried and tested and is the number one choice for homeowners, farmers and semi professionals.
How does the Anti-Vibration System perform?
Regular use of hand held power tools can directly result in users experiencing long term effects to their blood vessels in both the hands and arms. STIHL have acknowledged these long term effects of prolonged use of power equipment. The anti vibration system performs to an exceptional standard in the HS45 and removes any consumer’s fear. STIHL’s elastostart system dampens the overall vibration felt by the user when holding the handle of the machine during start-up. The shock is guided away from your joints and muscles and towards the spring or rubber element in the starter handle.
What are the key engine details?
The HS 45 uses STIHL’s dependable standard two stroke 27.2cm³ engine with 0.75kW Power Output. This two-mix engine has been designed for low fuel consumption and low emissions whilst still delivering excellent power. A small fuel pump delivers fuel to carburetter at the touch of a button. This reduces the amount of pulls needed to start the engine, especially after extended breaks and significant time between uses. The electric ignition module ensures the machine's overall reliable, hassle free start. This is ideal for a quick start up even after long periods of time where the hegdetrimmer has not been in use. The ignition system is fully enclosed, protecting it from damp and dirt. This engine provides the power you need to cut through shrubbery with ease.
What is the HS 45 used for?
The HS 45 is an introductory hedgetrimmer recommended for homeowner use. As a result, the features of this machine are extremely user friendly rather than the more complex features of a hedgetrimmer designed for commercial use. The double-edged blades permitting rapid cutting both upwards and downwards while the special blade alignment also ensures high cutting performance. STIHL recommends this machine for domestic gardening in particular as opposed to professional use. It is important to note that the HS45’s robust engine is more than capable of tackling more challenging tasks.
Owning a STIHL HS 45 (Maintenance)
The mixing of oil and petrol is required. A top tip from our experts is that we recommend using an ethanol free petrol such as STIHL motomix with a two year shelf life. Ethanol can be damaging to a hedge trimmer because the hedge trimmer may sit idle for long periods of time. This will maintain the machine and keep it at optimal running condition. Blade lubrication is also necessary for effective maintenance of the HS 45. The STIHL resin remover will cut the pitch as well as lubricate the blades. The gar box must also be lubricated every 50 hours. Our experts recommend the STIHL multilube which should be lighted squeezed into the grease point. Carry out regular checks on your machine’s air filter, fuel filter and spark plug to prolong the life of your machine. The STIHL HS 45 comes equipped with a Long Life Air Filter System, ensuring a more protective and reliable engine with longer cleaning intervals.
Is there anything else I should know?
- A top tip from our experts is to always wear PPE such as ear muffs and safety glasses when operating this machine, especially over periods of extended use.
- As a petrol engine machine it can be heavy in comparison to similar products in the STIHL battery powered range. The weight of the machine is excellent in comparison to similar models which is noticeable while carrying out simple tasks like a smaller hedge.
- Stihl classifies this machine as a residential unit meaning it is ideal for a homeowner, however, reviews from regular users have proven that this machine can withstand the tougher tasks.
Keith Ryan, Sales Advisor at ISE Forest and Garden Equipment Kilkenny says,
